Lotto Dstny rider Caleb Ewan came in 18th at the Australian national championship in Buninyong. The sprinter survived for a long time in a group with the best riders of the day on the difficult course and in warm conditions. He only had to let the leading group go in the final lap.

I knew I had to have a really good day here to be able to compete for victory”, Caleb Ewan said just after the race. “It is a difficult circuit that does not really suit me. I had that good day, but the pace was so high all day long. Lap after lap riders were dropped and we were left with about 20 riders to go into the final lap. I was the fastest rider in that group, but on the final climb the attacks started. Unfortunately, I had to let go and there was no chance of getting back. It is a pity, but at the same time I am very satisfied with the feeling I had on the bike, and am looking forward to Tour Down Under.”
