ProTeam Milan Menten takes another podium in GP Criquielion

After winning Le Samyn earlier this week, Lotto Dstny rider Milan Menten just missed out on the victory of GP Criquielion on Saturday. From a difficult starting position he came close to winning, but in the end he had to tolerate one rider in front of him.

“With the win in Le Samyn on Tuesday, this was already a good week for me and the team,” said Menten immediately afterwards. “Today we wanted to make it a hard race again, like on Tuesday. We partially succeeded: we entered the final with a small peloton.”

In that final, Menten could barely avoid a crash. “In the absolute final I was part of the reduced peloton, but they crashed right in front of me. Victor Campenaerts and Frederik Frison then did everything they could to bring me back to the front. I had to start earlier than I would have liked, to still have a chance to win. ‘All or nothing’, I said to myself. I made up a lot of places very quickly and thought for a moment about winning. But I couldn't hold off Sam Welsford. Of course, we always go for the win, but given the circumstances I can be at peace with this.”
