ProTeam Sports Director Mario Aerts previews the Dauphiné

The Critérium du Dauphiné kicks off today. We talked with sports director Mario Aerts about the goals for Lotto Dstny.
Race 02 June 2024

“The first and fifth stage is a sprint, for Milan Menten. We don’t have a lot of top sprinters in this Dauphiné, so definitely these two stages are a big chance. It also means there will not be so many teams to control, which could create some chaos. The second and third stage are really nice for Andreas Kron. These are punchy stages.”

“The time trial is an interesting stage for Logan Currie, who is the New Zealand Champion. He crashed on training camp, so we will need to see how he feels. The last part of the Dauphiné has three mountain stages, where Andreas can try but we will see day by day and of course we have a lot of riders for breakaway chances.”

“Most of the riders did an altitude camp at Sierra Nevada, it’s really individual on how a rider feels after being on altitude. Some of the riders are immediately strong, others need some time. We have a strong team here, with Andreas who is feeling well. We miss Thomas De Gendt, as he is sick. He was on the good track, and has a lot of experience, so he would have been fitting well in this.”

“The riders who hope to go to the Tour de France, definitely want to show themselves here. It’s not so long anymore, so you need to be well here already. The level will be really high, as everyone wants to show themselves, just before the Tour.”
