Race 13 June 2024

The Lotto Dstny Development Team took a second stage win in the Giro Next Gen. Steffen De Schuyteneer sprinted to the win in stage five, in Cremona. "The plan for me was to sprint today after being a lead-out man yesterday. I'm very happy”, says a delighted De Schuyteneer. “In the beginning of the week I was a bit sick, but today I felt well. It was a very chaotic sprint. The last 10km were crazy. My teammates did a super job. I found a gap and all the pieces fell together. It's very special to win here at my first Giro Next Gen. We are super happy with two stage wins and Jarno (Widar) is leading the general classification, we will see how the next days go.”

Jarno Widar remains the overall leader. “I’m really looking forward to tomorrow. I will try to go for another victory, but I’ll need good legs for that. In any case I’ll try to defend the pink jersey. We have a super strong team here, it’s just crazy we took another win today with Steffen. We are strong in the sprints and the climbs, it’s a good mix of the two.”
