ProTeam First pro podium for Jarne Van de Paar in second pro race

The young sprinter finishes third at Trofeo Palma.

Lotto Dstny concluded the five-day Challenge Mallorca with a third consecutive podium place. This time, it was Jarne Van de Paar – neo-pro since only a couple of days – who sprinted to a strong third place after his Lotto Dstny teammates delivered a strong performance in the build-up to the bunch sprint. For the 22-year-old Van de Paar, who was accompanied on the podium in Palma de Mallorca by winner Ethan Vernon and Biniam Girmay – it’s a dream start to his pro career at Lotto Dstny, which announced last Friday that Van de Paar would turn pro with immediate effect.

Jarne Van de Paar: “I already felt good during the race but to immediately finish on the podium comes also as a surprise to me. Before the race, I was appointed as today’s sprinter and of course I wanted to pay back that confidence in me as best as possible. The many turns and strong wind made for a hectic final but my experienced teammates ensured that we came to the front at just the right moment. It was a great feeling to be led into the final straight behind those guys and it gave me a lot of self-confidence.”

That confidence ultimately led to a first podium at the pros for Jarne Van de Paar.

“It was quite a chaotic sprint but the team delivered me perfectly. Maybe I just went a little too late but I could still make up some space in the end. Maybe even more had been possible but I’m of course really happy with this podium spot. With also a second and third place for Lennert Van Eetvelt the past week, I think we can say it’s been a successful week for Lotto Dstny at the Mallorca Challenge.”
