ProTeam Frison 4th, Beullens 7th in Classic Brugge-De Panne

Strong collective performance in Classic Brugge De Panne marked by echelons.
Race 22 March 2023

Lotto Dstny has delivered a strong team performance at a rainy and windy edition of Classic Brugge-De Panne (1.UWT). The first time through the notorious ‘Moeren’ immediately created chaos and splits as the peloton was further reduced to a select group that eventually went in the final local lap. Two riders represented Lotto Dstny at the front, Cedric Beullens and Frederik Frison, who launched an impressive attack in the deep final and bridged towards a leading trio Philipsen, Kooij and Lampaert. The four riders would eventually battle it out for victory on the Zeelaan in De Panne. Frison tried to surprise with a ultimate attack in the final kilometres but had to settle for 4th place. In the first chasing group, it was Cedric Beullens who sprinted to a strong 7th place.

Although he hoped for more, Frederik Frison is satisfied with 4th place. “With Kooij, Lampaert and Philipsen in the front group it would always be difficult to go for victory. At the end, I played all or nothing but unfortunately, I couldn’t pull it off. I had to give it my all to close the gap to the three leaders and maybe I lacked that energy a bit in the end but I’m quite happy with this 4th place. Collectively, we did a strong race with Lotto Dstny and personally, I’m hungry for more after this performance.”

Also Cedric Beullens ends the Classic Brugge – De Panne with a good feeling. “For me, this was a more than successful test to evaluate my shape for the coming races. It was a real elimination race in which only the strongest remained. With a lot of sprinters still present in the final, it was up to me and Frederik to figure out how we would take it on. But with two Lotto Dstny riders in the deep final and a fourth and seventh place, we can look back on a successful Classic Brugge-De Panne.”
