It all began in 1977 with a bold vision of Frans Verbeeck, ex-professional Belgian cyclist and founder of Vermarc Sport: “We will develop the world’s best cycling team wear.” Today Vermarc stands for personalized design, outstanding quality due to the production in Italy and maximum performance.

How long has Vermarc been a partner of Lotto Dstny?

“We have been a partner of the team ever since 2004. So, we will be entering our 19th year together. I think that already says a lot.”

Are the expectations being fulfilled?

“Of course! Our clothing sales are heavily linked to cycling’s biggest stars. For example, we saw our sales rise sharply thanks to Robbie McEwen and André Greipel. Tony Gallopin also caused a peak in France. However, the biggest effect was caused by Philippe Gilbert, during his magical 2012 season.”

Does Vermarc also learn something from the Lotto Dstny team?

“Obviously! Especially in terms of aerodynamics. Ultimately, it is Vermarc that develops new concepts and designs, but receiving feedback from the riders who test the material is really important to us. Aerodynamics and wearing comfort do not always go hand in hand. Then, it comes down to finding a successful balance. Someone like Victor Campenaerts was of incredible value to us. He’s doing his job in a maniacal way and besides, he is always critical. However, always in a constructive manner.”

What makes Lotto Dstny unique for you?

“The Belgian character of the team. Lotto Dstny is a loyal partner and a certainty. Lotto is the world’s oldest sponsor in cycling. For us, it is just obvious to be working together with Lotto Dstny.

Up till now, what performances or events have brought you the most joy?

“Without a doubt, the wonderful year of Philippe Gilbert in 2011. He just went from one victory to the next. Greater publicity was unthinkable. Philippe still is a great rider and a real  professional. The perfect signboard in Flanders, Wallonia and far beyond Belgium.”
