Jarno Widar wrapped up the week after a particularly successful weekend for Lotto Dstny. The youngster from the Development Team had to deal with illness in the past few days and didn't had the best feeling, but still managed to secure an impressive solo victory in the U23 classic. "It was a really stressful race", he reflects. "At the start of the race, we had to watch out for parked cars. And when I thought I had a flat tire halfway through and switched bikes, the front brake of that bike didn't work. So, I had to switch again. Luckily, I managed to return just in time because some riders were trying to escape at the front, and I was able to make the jump."

Widar eventually got in a group of fifteen riders. "We worked well together, and after I could push the pace on the climbs, the group thinned out. We were left with four riders. I felt comfortable and already thought I had a chance, but when I tried to attack, they managed to stay on my wheel. It wasn't until the final lap that I could really pull away."

Widar crossed the finish line alone, claiming his first victory in only his second race of the season. "I stay calm about it; I'm not the one to jump on tables. But of course, I'm happy. The big goals are still ahead. Like Liège-Bastogne-Liège and the Worlds, among others. I'm already looking forward to the next challenge."
