Mathijs Paasschens is Lotto Dstny’s next reinforcement. The 26-year-old Dutchman, who has lived in Belgium for almost his entire life, has signed a two-year deal, starting in 2023. “This is a step forward for me. There is a good match in mentality.”

Riding long and hard”, is how Mathijs Paasschens describes his most important qualities. “The last few years I have shown myself a lot in early breakaways of big races. That mentality, the offensive style of racing, matches really well with Lotto Soudal’s mentality. Next to that, I can use my strong points at the service of Caleb Ewan or Arnaud De Lie by controlling breakaways.”

The Dutchman looks forward to 2023. “This is a step forward for me. I am motivated to work in a professional environment like Lotto Dstny. It also motivates me to work for leaders who have proven to be able to win at the highest level. I think I still have some growth margin. At Lotto Dstny I will be able to fully exploit that.”

Lotto Soudal CEO John Lelangue is enthused about Mathijs Paasschens’ signing. “The 2023 team is taking more and more shape. The last couple of years, Mathijs Paasschens has shown what he is capable of. We will help him reach an even higher level. He is versatile and will get the opportunity to show his offensive spirit. But when we want to have a sprint for Caleb Ewan or Arnaud De Lie, he will be a valuable asset as well.”
