ProTeam Andreas Kron: “I target a stage win at the Volta a Catalunya.”

The Dane looks forward to the 102nd edition of Volta a Catalunya.
Race 18 March 2023

On Monday 20 March, the start of the 102nd edition of the Volta Catalunya will be given, a race Lotto Dstny has been successful in during the past editions. It was Andreas Kron – again present this year - who immediately won the opening stage in Calella two years ago. That year, Thomas De Gendt won the closing stage in Barcelona, his fifth victory in the WorldTour race. Unfortunately, De Gendt won’t be at the start, the 36-year-old Belgian is still suffering from the consequences of a crash at Paris-Nice, where he sustained a contusion to his calf and hand. Compatriots Milan Menten, Maxim Van Gils, Sylvain Moniquet and Lennert Van Eetvelt will be present, together with the Argentinean Eduardo Sepulveda and the German Rüdiger Selig.

After a strong performance at Strade Bianche, the 24-year-old Andreas Kron has set his sights on the Volta a Catalunya, where the Dane hopes to repeat his stage win from two years ago.

Andreas Kron: I returned from Strade Bianche with a nice feeling and full of motivation I got back to training towards Volta a Catalunya. I am really looking forward to be back at the start this year. In my first participation in ’21, I immediately won the opening stage and also this year I have the ambition to win a stage. I already marked some interesting stages. Especially the opening stage, day six and seven are really tough days with chances for the breakaway. Winning a stage at the Volta a Catalunya is both a goal in itself but also an ideal way to sharpen the shape towards the Ardennes Classics. In my opinion those two go hand in hand and that is why I won’t be targeting a GC result.”
