Race 21 May 2023

In an exciting sprint at the end of the German one-day race Rund um Köln, Milan Menten and Jasper De Buyst narrowly lost to Danny Van Poppel. After a tough race and a strong collective performance by Lotto Dstny, a select group including Mathijs Paasschens and Michael Schwarzmann sprinted for the victory.

Milan Menten reflects on the race with mixed feelings: "Naturally, I am a bit disappointed. Such a close loss is always bitter. In the last 50 kilometers, we were left with about fifteen riders, and most sprinters had been dropped. When we started the sprint, there was a small miscommunication, and Jasper and I lost the wheel. It took a while after the finish to find out who won, and of course, you hope for the best."

The 26-year-old rider from Bilzen is satisfied with the team's work: "We had 4 riders in the breakaway, and we were able to stay together while the group was reduced. Especially Matthijs (Paasschens) did incredible work today. He took complete control in the last 20 kilometers. All in all, we can be proud to have two riders on the podium."
