ProTeam Lennert Van Eetvelt soloes to mountain stage win in Sibiu Tour

First pro victory for the young Lotto Dstny Belgian.
Race 07 July 2023

Lennert Van Eetvelt (21) has won the second stage at the Romanian Sibiu Tour. The Lotto Dstny climber arrived solo at the end of the 2nd stage, which brought the race to Lac Balea via the stunning Transfăgărășan road. Van Eetvelt also moves into the leader’s jersey of the Sibiu Tour with two stages remaining.

After a climb of over 20 kilometres and a finish on 2,000 metres altitude, the second stage of the Sibiu Tour was one of the pure climbers. Lotto Dstny rider Van Eetvelt found his playground in the high mountains, was well protected by his teammates and eventually distanced everyone to deliver a solo victory.

“We were really looking forward to this tough stage. I felt better and better as the climb went on and I really enjoyed this long ascent. To be climbing at 2,000 metres of altitude wasn’t an easy task but I really had fun and I am of course over the moon to take my first real professional win. Hopefully a lot more will follow.”

“Tomorrow’s stage will be another tough one and we’ll have to race attentively with the team. At the end, the strongest riders will prevail and hopefully we can again be up there and defend this leader’s jersey till the very end.”
