ProTeam Victor Campenaerts crowned as most combative rider of the Tour de France

"I started to doubt whether I could go back to my best level but this Tour de France reassured me."

After three weeks of racing, Victor Campenaerts has been named the most combative rider at the Tour de France. Campenaerts frequently showed his offensive spirit, amongst others on the way to Laruns, Puy-de-Dôme, Belleville-en-Beaujolais and Poligny. In stage 18, the Lotto Dstny rider was a crucial element in the breakaway that managed to outsmart the bunch in Bourg-en-Bresse, where teammate Pascal Eenkhoorn became second. For his countless attacks, Campenaerts was rewarded with the prestigious ‘Super combatif’ prize.

Victor Campenaerts: “It is really special to win this prize. It was never really an end in itself to ride for it, but more something that came naturally. Only in the final week of racing, it became an item and we tried to attack as much as possible to get the prize. I also need to thank my teammates to realize this. I think we can look back on this Tour with satisfaction, despite going home without a stage win.”

“Personally, this prize gives me a lot of satisfaction. My season hasn’t been going smoothly with that heavy crash and long rehab. I started to doubt whether I could go back to my best level but this Tour de France reassured me”, concludes Victor Campenaerts.
