ProTeam De Buyst sprints to victory

First in Zottegem and third in Overijse, Jasper De Buyst can look back on a nice weekend
Race 20 August 2023

Jasper De Buyst has won the Egmont Cycling Race (UCI 1.1). The Lotto Dstny rider showed himself the fastest in the sprint before Alexander Kristoff. Teammate Arjen Livyns finished seventh.

After the victory of buddy and vlog mate Victor Campenaerts on Saturday in Overijse, Jasper De Buyst could not stay behind in Zottegem and our rider started the race with great motivation. “These are my training roads, I race here every day. This may not be the biggest race on the calendar, but it is a very special race for me and I am starting here with a lot of ambition.”

After a fast and furious race a group of ten rode for the victory. Mike Teunissen jumped away in the final and Lotto Dstny rider Arjen Livyns had to pull hard to take the Dutchman back. He succeeded and it came down to a sprint with a small group. De Buyst took the win, in a millimeter sprint.

“Right from the start the pace was really high”, reacted De Buyst after the finish, “but I was prepared for it. “In the end I still had Arjen Livyns on my side and he played an important role in the victory. He took Mike Teunissen back and I could go for the sprint against Kristoff.”

De Buyst started his sprint from far and it came down to a photo finish. “I really had no idea who won”, says De Buyst, “but in the end it was me and I’m very happy with this victory. I don’t win that much, so to be here on top of the podium, in my home race is really special.”
