Race 30 March 2024

The GP Miguel Indurain promised to be a spectacle, with a lot of climbing and rainy weather conditions. A leading group of 7 riders became more and more select in the first part of the race. With 30 kilometers to go it all came together again, in the end a group of 20 riders with Maxim Van Gils was still up there.

In the final 10 kilometers, Brandon McNulty (UAE Team Emirates) went solo taking 15 seconds on his first chasers. On the steep Alto Ibarra, it was Maxim Van Gils who jumped towards McNulty. Van Gils dropped him and went alone. In the wet tricky descent, Van Gils lost some seconds due to the slippery roads and McNulty came back. In the sprint one of Lotto Dstny's leading men for the Ardennes classics had to be satisfied with a second place.

"I thought I didn't feel super today, so I actually first told the team that they should go for Sylvain (Moniquet), but my good feeling came back. It's a pity in the final that I slipped out to start my sprint, as I think we were really on the same level for the sprint. After I had stopped at Catalunya due to a crash, I'm happy with this second place."
