Development Liam Van Bylen shows good form in opening stage Tour de Bretagne

Liam Van Bylen sprints to a second place in the first stage, also taking the youth jersey.
Race 25 April 2024

The French stage race started with a flat stage of 146 kilometers. A breakaway of four riders coloured the day. “The most important thing for us was to be at the front to start the local laps”, Liam Van Bylen looks back. “That’s what we did. The pace was very high. In the last corner I was a bit too far, but Joshua (Giddings) waited for me until I was better positioned. When he saw I was in fifth position, he started to go full gas until 300 meters to go.”

“I started my sprint, on the same moment of Tim Torn Teutenberg (the later winner). He already had two meters, actually I should have been in his wheel, but in the end he was just stronger than me. There was a lot of team work today, the guys helped me perfectly to position well and we were there with the group when we needed to. Tomorrow is quite a long stage, over 200 kilometers, and hard with some climbing. We’ll see how I’ll feel and how we tackle the stage.”
