Development Matys Grisel takes victory at Tour de Bretagne

The fifth stage of the Tour de Bretagne took the riders from La Gacilly to Saint-Méen-le-Grand. The early breakaway got taken back by the bunch just before heading to the local circuit. With 15 kilometers to go, a new attack was set. Eight riders built out a gap on the peloton. In the decisive move the Lotto Dstny Devo Team was present with Matys Grisel.

The breakaway could just hold off an upcoming bunch, where a big crash happened in the final. Grisel, who earlier this season took multiple top ten places, outruled his competitors and sprinted to his first 2024 win.

“I’m super happy with this victory. Normally we would go for Liam (Van Bylen) in the sprint. In the last two laps a small group took a gap and Joshua (Giddings) told me I should go with them. In the beginning I didn’t go full but then I started believing we could really take it to the end. I was still afraid that the bunch would take us back, but there we also had Liam as a second card. The last two stages also suit me well. The whole team is in good form. The Tour de Bretagne is a big goal for us."
