ProTeam Moniquet gains confidence with 5th place overall at Tour de Hongrie

The 25-year-old Belgian makes a strong impression uphill.

Sylvain Moniquet has concluded the Tour of Hungary on a fifth place in the general classification. In the hilly stages that shaped the GC, Moniquet made a strong impression uphill as the 25-year-old Belgian finished on place four and three in stage three and four, respectively. The closing stage in Budapest, suited to the fast guys, was neutralised due to the bad weather conditions.

Sylvain Moniquet looks back on four days of racing in Hungary. “The fourth stage, with its summit finish, proved the most important for the GC. Seen the small differences on GC, the bonification seconds would be very important. Jasper De Buyst rode an impressive stage in the breakaway and was only caught at one kilometre from the finish. Between the GC favourites, there were attacks everywhere but I felt really good uphill and never got in any trouble. At the end, Jasper even did a lead-out for me, so I could sprint to third place. Despite the bonification seconds, I could not move up on GC, which is maybe a pity. Nevertheless, I’m really happy with this performance and how we raced as a team. Personally, this gives me a confidence boost for the races to come”, concludes Moniquet.
