The sprinter of Lotto Dstny took a fifth spot in a rainy first stage in the North of France.
Race 14 May 2024

The first day was a rainy stage, from Dunkerque to Le Touquet. With three local laps, the finish could be studied well upfront. Five riders made it into the breakaway of the day, but a bunch sprint was written in the stars. Milan Menten sprinted to a fifth spot, in a tricky wet final.

“My feeling was good, but it was difficult to stay upright. It was dangerous sometimes, from the start on it was raining. The breakaway was controlled, and got caught quite easily. It was very nervous, as everyone wanted to be in the front. In the last lap the most important was the positioning.”

“My teammates still put the pace in the last kilometers, I lost the wheel of Alec (Segaert). I eventually still got there, but I was a bit too far. I’m happy that I didn’t crash and tomorrow is another chance. We will go for it again.”
