Race 13 June 2023

On Wednesday, the Baloise Belgium Tour will be kicked off in Scherpenheuvel. With chances for sprinters, puncheurs and time trial specialists, the five-day 2.Pro stage race in Belgian appeals to many riders. Lotto Dstny will bring a strong seven-rider squad to the start, with Caleb Ewan as sprinter. The Australian showed his fast legs this weekend with a second place at the Elfstedenronde.

In 2021, Ewan already won two stages in the Belgium Tour, also during his 2nd participation, the Australian eyes a stage win. Ewan will be assisted by a strong team including Jasper De Buyst, Jarrad Drizners, Frederik Frison, Sébastien Grignard, Jacopo Guarnieri and Florian Vermeersch.

“Just like in any other race, the goal is to win. That won’t be different in the Belgium Tour but maybe now it is even more important to get a victory. I didn’t win a lot so far this year and going into the Tour de France, it would be important to have at least another win to give me some more confidence. Besides, the Belgium Tour is the ideal opportunity to finetune the lead-out one last time. A stage win is the goal and definitely as a sprinter, victories really give you a confidence boost. But also if I don’t get a win, this doesn’t have to mean anything. I feel really good and a victory would only give me a confirmation of that form”, concludes Ewan.
